Alcoa - Deschambault Celebrates Volunteer Work In The Community And Employee Volunteers

Deschambault; 28 October 2008 - "At Alcoa, community involvement is a way of life for all of us! It is an integral part of corporate culture that manifests itself in many ways from various angles”, said Mr Pierre Lapointe, General Manager of Deschambault Smelter, at an event held in Donnacona to celebrate the voluntary commitment of employees in the Alcoa Worldwide Month of Service.

This year was a record year for the number of ACTION Programs; 1: seven of which were accomplished by Deschambault employees and supported by Alcoa employee leadership. The following organizations welcomed the teams of volunteers to realize their projects:
- OTJ de Cap-Santé ; leader Sylvain Bourgoing
- Regroupement des propriétaires du Marais de Grondines ; leader Sylvain Duval
- Club Récréation et Jeunesse de Saint-Ubalde ; leader Denis Thibault
- Club FADOQ Deschambault ; leaders Sylvie Hamelin et Marc Tessier
- Parc récréatif à la Municipalité de Saint-Gilbert ; leader Jacques Perron
- École St-Cœur-de-Marie de Rivière-à-Pierre ; leader André Bouchard
- Arc-en-ciel à Donnacona ; leader Nelson Bédard
234 people gave more than 936 hours to renovate, paint, construct and help make a difference in their community. Also, 114 employees registered 63 organizations to the Alcoa Foundation Bravo! program2. Actually, our employees have contributed more than 11 000 hours within their respective organizations. Over all, an approximate total of 12,000 hours of volunteer work has been invested. "It's important for Alcoa people to make an immediate difference in someone's life. Organizations need our people and our employees are please to good-heartedly give their time to make that difference," said Mr Lapointe. Alcoa-Deschambault also contributed the amount of $104,914. to the United Way 2008 Campaign (Quebec and Chaudière-Appalaches Area), allowing many associated organizations to benefit from substantial funds and help our neighbours, who are in need. Half of this amount was collected from employees and the company has doubled the amount collected. The Alcoa Deschambault aluminium smelter employs a team of 530 people producing more than 250,000 metric tons of aluminium per year. Alcoa Canada Primary Metals includes the Deschambault plant as well as Bécancour Aluminum plant and Rod Plant and Baie-Comeau Aluminum plant, all of which contribute to an economic impact of over 1.5 billion dollars per year in the province of Québec.
